Greenwood School is a Waldorf inspired community of families and teachers who share a passionate commitment to the education of the whole person. We emphasize a universal spirituality, reverence for the earth, and the interconnectedness of all life forms on it.
"It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves."
-William Shakespeare
Developmental Academics
Our curriculum is inspired by the developmental philosophy of Waldorf schools. We integrate art, music, drama, stories drawn from around the world, movement, handwork and gardening into a strong academic foundation. We shape the content to reflect a deliberate gender balance and a global world view. We respect the challenges and strengths of each individual and foster the development of critical and creative abilities through a love of learning.
Deep Ecological Values
We emphasize reverence for and stewardship of the earth, attunement to its rhythms, and awareness of the interconnectedness and diversity of all life forms on it.
Universal Spiritual Focus
We recognize the spiritual nature of human beings. We observe the universal cycles of growth and death, and honor the sacredness of life. We believe that time for quiet reflection is important.
Community As A Vehicle For Education
We celebrate together, and we work together to create a safe, joyous, and exceptional learning environment through careful listening to one another, creative discussion, trust and inspiration. We provide continuity and support between our homes and our school. We believe in modeling the characteristics we seek to cultivate in our children: respect, compassion, courage, personal integrity and social responsibility.
