Seeking a 1st Grade Class Teacher for the 2010-11 school year.
Greenwood School, an independent, Waldorf-inspired Prek-8th grade school located in Mill Valley (just 15 minutes north of San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge) in California, is seeking a first grade teacher for the 2010-11 school year. In its 18th year, Greenwood has 12 full-time and 12 part-time teachers and 150 students.
We seek an experienced, Waldorf-trained teacher to join our growing school community. The ideal applicant will be a talented and dedicated teacher; a team-player, with excellent classroom management and communication skills. He or she will have a broad general education in the Arts and Sciences with at least a BA/BS degree. As a member of the Greenwood faculty, you will participate in a collaborative faculty and school culture, and in ongoing professional development. We have an experienced Waldorf faculty and offer mentoring for less-experienced staff. We anticipate that the 1st grade class will be 24 students.
Our subject programs include: Spanish, Eurythmy, Orchestra, Poetry, Woodwork, Gardening, Handwork, Games, and Mandarin or Arabic as 2nd languages in grades 1-4. In addition each class spends one day per week, after main lesson, outdoors in nature in our Nature and Environmental Studies (NEST) program. This unique program fosters wonder, reverence, and stewardship of the natural world, while incorporating experiential learning into an age-appropriate science program. As a member of our faculty, you will join our vibrant and growing school in our quest to provide an excellent, holistic education that will prepare our students for high school and their futures.
